The EIC is thrilled to announce the Macaé Breakfast: Opportunities in Drilling Sector with Transocean and SLB

Transocean is a company based in Switzerland, and is one of the leading international companies providing offshore contract drilling services for oil and gas wells. The company operates a vast fleet of offshore drilling rigs, including semi-submersible rigs, drillships and deepwater drilling units worldwide.

In September 2023, Transocean announced the signing of a contract worth US$486m with Petrobras for the chartering of the Deepwater Aquila drillship for a period of three years. This agreement marked a significant step in Transocean's operational portfolio in Brazil, which already comprised several other drillships performing work for Petrobras in the Campos and Santos basins.

This move not only further consolidates Transocean’s presence in the Brazilian offshore drilling market but also demonstrates its commitment to expanding its operations and capabilities in the region.

SLB's purpose is to pioneer transformative technology that expands access to energy for the benefit of all. For a century, innovation has driven their mission. Spanning over 100 countries with a workforce representing diverse nationalities, SLB focuses daily on decarbonising industries, innovating in oil and gas, scaling digital solutions, and developing new energy systems to hasten the energy transition.

In April 2024, SLB secured three contracts to develop up to 35 subsea wells in Petrobras' Búzios oil field, encompassing hardware and supplementary services. Much of the technology slated for deployment was pioneered at SLB's Taubaté Engineering Centre in Brazil, specifically tailored for the Brazilian pre-salt, through collaboration with Cenpes and Total Energies.

In June 2024, SLB also reached an agreement with Argentinian oil company Vista Energy entailing a second fracturing set to scale up Vista's production of unconventional oil in the Vaca Muerta region.
